On 28 January 2012 a sell-out audience of over 230 enjoyed Summoned by Bells and the evening concluded with a reception at the Old Palace. During the day ringers from all over the UK, visited the city’s five ringable towers.

The bells ring out!

The ring of new bells is complete and once again, the bells of Old St Martin’s ring out over Worcester after a silence of over 100 years.

Installation of the Tenor

Installation of the Tenor

Installation of the last remaining bell, the tenor, has taken place today, completing the ring of ten bells. Final adjustments are to take place over the next week before the first ringing of the bells, planned for 11th November.

Nine of the ten bells are now in position in the tower with just the Tenor remaining. Friday saw John and Peter install the Treble through Eighth, and the Ninth went up in a couple of hours on Saturday courtesy of John, Mark and William.

Bells Dedication Service

The Dedication Service for the new bells has taken place at Old St. Martin’s in which they were dedicated by the Bishop of Worcester, the Very Reverend Dr John Inge.

The bells have arrived at Old St. Martin’s and are on display in the church pending installation. Bells arrival date confirmed

The new bells will arrive at Old St. Martin’s at 12:30pm on Friday 26th August 2011. A service of dedication will take place at 4pm on Sunday 4th September 2011. The new bells will be dedicated by the Bishop of Worcester, the Very Reverend Dr John Inge.

First stage of bell frame nearing completion

First stage of bell frame nearing completion

Another couple of days work and the first stage of the bell frame construction is almost complete. All the cross braces are in position and being bolted together. The next stage is for the steels to be cemented into the walls then once set, the ‘A’ frames which will hold the bells can be fitted.

The galvanised bell frame arrived at Old St. Martin’s early this morning and initial installation is underway. Many thanks go to Hereford Galvanizers for treating the frame.
